NAGIN APOLOGIZES FOR "CHOCOLATE" REMARKS
..SAYS HE MEANT TO SAY SOMETHING COMPLETELY DIFFERENT
(SOUR GRAPES GAZETTE AND AP SOURCES)
Apologizing for a lapse in his normally perfect judgement and insisting he is not a racist, not one little teensy tiny bit, New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin issued a half-ass apology.
Nagin, giving a speech to commemorate MLK Day, was quoted as saying: "I don't care what people are saying Uptown or wherever they are. This city will be chocolate at the end of the day."
When pressed to admit that he had made racially insensitive remarks, Nagin insists he mispoke, meaning to say that "At the end of the day, everyone in New Orleans will be drinking chocolate martinis and celebrating the rebirth of this vital and diverse metropolis."
"How do you make chocolate? You take dark chocolate, you mix it with white milk, and it becomes a delicious drink, especially when you add vodka and chill until it freezes your teeth. That is the chocolate I am talking about," he said.
Nagin says he hopes that white folks, especially ones who come to drink, eat, party with prostitutes, listen to jazz and dump loads of white-people money into his city, will forgive his mistake.
"Hey ya'll come on back to New Orleans, people of whiteness. Bring your Winnebagos and your VISA cards. New Orleans is ready to welcome you with open arms," said Mayor Nagin.
