Rare! A Politician With Spine
Next to life itself, self-responsibility is the most precious possession one can lose, and it matters not how he loses it. — Leonard E. Read, The Coming Aristocracy
AS THE LAST REMAING voice of reason left in politics, Congressman Ron Paul (R-TX) is the strongest medicine America has against the burgeoning NANNY state. Since anything outside a two-party system in America is a pipe dream, Dr. Paul has chosen to affiliate himself with the Republicans. However, his writings and his voting record indicate that he is a man who isn't afraid to challenge his party and to think for himself. Many political writers refer to Paul as a "libertarian".
Dr. Paul's stated principles are ones to which many Americans (at least in theory) subscribe.
The Ron Paul FREEDOM PRINCIPLES
*Rights belong to individuals, not groups.
*Property should be owned by people, not government.
*All voluntary associations should be permissible -- economic and social.
*The government's monetary role is to maintain the integrity of the monetary unit, not participate in fraud.
*Government exists to protect liberty, not to redistribute wealth or to grant special privileges.
*The lives and actions of people are their own responsibility, not the government's.
To this end, Congressman Paul has tirelessly opposed legislation expanding government's power and has offered insightful analysis into pending legislation. I salute his efforts and wish that a few more of the libertarians in Congress would come out of the closet and help us stay free.
